Relax e natura nel cuore della Liguria

What are the Rio Barbaira lakes?

The Small Lakes of Rio Barbaira
The small lakes of Rio Barbaira are literally at the gates of the medieval village of Rocchetta Nervina. They consist of a series of natural basins carved by the Barbaira stream over the centuries. Their clear, crystalline waters, with blue-green reflections, mirror the sky and surrounding vegetation, offering an atmosphere that is both enchanting and refreshing.

The trail to reach them starts from the village, near the old bridge, passing through the characteristic carugi (typical narrow streets). In just a few minutes, you reach the first lake, also called “Lago dei Sette Bacì.” The path, typical of the old Ligurian mule tracks, winds between terraces, scree, and vegetation, offering beautiful scenic viewpoints.

These spots are ideal for those looking for a relaxing day in nature, without straying too far from the village.

Activities and Tips

Swimming and Picnics
Among the various lakes, the Lake of Two Waterfalls offers a natural hydromassage effect, while the Cascade Lake, nestled like in a small dam, allows swimming and relaxing on a small “beach” above the waterfall.

Panoramic Trail and Canyoning
For those seeking more adventure, it is possible to continue the trail to the famous Ponte Cin, a medieval bridge located upstream of the village. From there, a more challenging section of the stream offers perfect landscapes for canyoning: jumps, descents, and natural pools nestled in a canyon, ideal for enthusiasts of stream-based adventure.

Flora, Fauna, and Landscape
The natural setting is characterized by marl-sandy and limestone rocks sculpted by water, with canyons and natural basins overlooking the forests of the Ligurian Alps Natural Park. You can find white firs, Scots pines, maples, and Mediterranean species, which are home to birds such as the black woodpecker and the eagle owl.
